Total Football is Born

Icons of the Game

Holland of the 1970s revolutionised football. They created and played ‘Total Football’ - a style of play based on passing and fluid positioning of players. It required a high level of technical ability, game understanding and fitness.

The players needed to comfortably play several positions while also having great touch, movement and passing skills. Developed at Ajax FC and seen by the world through the Netherlands national team, it has become the signature style of many teams globally and is loved by most football lovers.

At its best, it’s a style of football that’s a joy to watch, aesthetically beautiful. It perhaps reached its zenith with Pep’s Barcelona team, whose style was known as tiki-taka. Check out the video below and discover how Total Football was born:
